While reading Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch, the following paragraph startled me.
“Every decision you make—every decision—is not a decision about what to do. It’s a decision about who you are. When you see this, when you understand it, everything changes. You begin to see life in a new way. All events, occurrences, and situations turn into opportunities to do what you came here to do.”
What struck me is that I’ve been teaching this—in my marketing program! It is a message in my coach mentoring. You see, I believe our marketing results are physical manifestations of who we think we are.
As a coach, you want to bring your gift out into the world. This is how you live “on purpose.” But, in order to connect with clients to do that, you need to first get clear about who you are as a coach. This means asking yourself: What problems do I solve? What solutions do I bring to bear? Which people do I feel the most self-expressed around and feel a connection with?
Then, and only then, does a clear enough picture start to emerge of who you are, where to aim, and how you might cross paths with the people you most want to help.
Once you’ve achieved that clarity, your personal GPS (God-Purpose-Spirit) will lead you to the actions that put you in front of your target market. When you take this inside out approach, a map for success is the inevitable outcome.
Indeed, marketing success requires that you access your GPS, your intuition—the voice you hear behind the fear—so that you act in accordance with who you really are and why you were put here. When you do that, you connect to your talent, start to speak from that place, and choose actions that bring that ability into the world. You’re less likely to second guess or minimize an action for fear that it feels too big or risky.
Successful entrepreneurs consistently “think about their thinking” with an eye towards refining it to create more success. They ask themselves “What I would do if I weren’t afraid?” Then (as Joyce Meyers says) they do it afraid. What’s the other option? Be afraid and stay stuck? If you’re going to be afraid anyway, why not put yourself out there to create new possibilities?
Courageous entrepreneurs powerfully push aside fear and move forward in ways that support their highest goals. They are directed by their inner voice, the GPS that leads them to actions that are congruent with what they desire.
When we act in accordance with who we are and what we stand for—our purpose— we show up in a way that supports abundance as a natural outcome.
