Female Executives

True North Services
Existing and Emerging Female Executives

Women in management are now on the playing field in unprecedented numbers.

Women currently make up 47 percent of the workforce; however, they only make up 12 percent of the upper executive ranks. The fact is that women hold critically different beliefs and assumptions about organizations and about  management careers. If being recognized by the organization for your abilities is important to you, then it is in your best interest to learn the rules of the game.

My specialty is helping women leaders and those who are leadership-bound emerge more powerfully in their professional and personal life—deliver better results for the organization and themselves. I help them calibrate their compass and I partner with them so that they can find their true north.

Whether it is conveying competence, facing competition, being heard,  understanding corporate politics, participating on a team, building alliances or leading others, women often feel challenged by not clearly understanding what the unspoken rules are or what is expected and rewarded.

I help women improve their performance, increase their impact on their organization and find success on their own terms. No matter where they’re at, I help them navigate what is often a circuitous and challenging path. My approach gives them a clearer focus which allows them to view the corporate world through a different lens. They begin to see their way through the maze and increase their efficacy.

Specifically, I help them:

  • develop leadership presence—take the next big step on the leadership path
  • learn to communicate more effectively—learn to speak so others will listen
  • negotiate for greater equity and advancement—learn how to ask for the position, title and salary commensurate with their contribution and get it
  • promote their strengths—engage in the art of self-promotion
  • get proficient at navigating within the corporate landscape
  • kick-start a stalled career
  • develop political savvy
  • network strategically—identify key relationships both inside and outside the organization
  • achieve better balance between career and family aspirations
  • be acknowledged as a team player and effective leader

Behavior is perceived and labeled differently based on gender.

Bruce Peltier, The Psychology of Executive Coaching

The challenge for women in the workplace is that “the male is seen as normative, the female as departing from the norm".

Deborah Tannen, ‘You Just Don’t Understand. Women and Men in Conversation’

Men and women tend to use different conversational styles, and when styles clash or are misunderstood, the problems they cause are mislabeled as bad intentions, lack of ability, poor character, or some other intrapersonal quality.
